[Image: http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/suestuff/philco1.jpg] I'm in the process of restoring an Emerson DA287 and have a real head scratcher question. Riders shows ( http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/019/M0005019.htm ) resistor "R7" to be 15 mega ohms.... I've never run across a resistor that I can remember to be of that high a value! It's burnt and needs to be replaced. I checked on the AES website and the highest value they even list is 8 mega ohms. Wondering IF this could be a misprint and if not, shouldn't the 8 mega ohm work OK? The largest value resistor I have in my box is just 1 mega ohm. Ideas - thoughts??
Hi Guys, I have just obtained what I believe is a 1936 116X chassis code122. My intention here was to scavenge parts off of it to finish a 116X project in progress. But now, I am not certain what it is that I have. I understand that the company made several changes over the various production runs for this radio. One thing I noticed is that a capacitor block (item 47 on the schematic) is totally omitted and there are subtle differences in wiring. Is there a good resource that lists the various updates and changes along with schematics that match?
Hi Philco Pholks, Although it states on the Kessler Shellac can "do not thin," has anyone thinned this shellac, say from a 3lb cut to a 1lb cut?? Thanks
Hi, I'm new here, and I appreciate all of the info so far.
when I found a Philco 53-960 Tropic on Ebay. I really like the look of this set and with a 10" speaker it should sound good. To me it is like one of the "Holy Grail" radios that I would like to own.
I have a possible chance to purchase a decent 37-84 to add to my Philco collection and I am wondering what it might be worth. The cabinet is in realy good shape, photo finish is good except some wear around the off-on/volume knob. Both knobs are there and all the tubes are there. Cord looks good, chassis is fairly clean and the speaker looks good. The numbers on he dial look to have eaten off from a reaction to the oil on the original owner's fingers, so will need to replace that. Dial is there, just no numbers left. Also we tried it on a variac and got no response.
I just got a Grandfather Clock Radio, it has a Philco Radio Model 70 Superheterodyne radio, with a Hammon clock. It has a paper label with says it was made by The Dearborn Co, Chicago, IL. Can any one give me more info on this radio or point me in the right direction. The clock works fine, so far I know I need to replace the cord on the radio. I would like to restore this right not half way. It is a nice clock/Radio. I am new to radios because I've always collected clocks, looks like I may be getting into radios somewhat. I've added a photo, any help would be great.
I am finishing a 6S632. I was wondering if anybody has a good picture and if the bottom stripe is photo finish or veneer. |
