Sailing along, down to the final stages, after re-capping I set out to align the set. Have a B&K SigGen, Frequency Counter, O'scope and VTVM.

First problem, the AM alignment, was with the 2nd IF transformer, TC402A. I can get no change in output from the transformer, regardless of how much I twist it. Trimmer C402A works fine, sensitive but not overly sensitive. Next on in squence was TC 400A, slight change in output but not near what I thought it should be.

Shortwave works fine.

AM is feeble

FM work fine.

Any ideas? Bad/gassy 7B7 IF amp?

New guy here, and new proud member of the Philco family. Father in Law gave me this for christmas. he restored the outside, I'm responsible for the inside! lol. Look forward to the knowledge here for help with that. Picking it up at the house later in the week. Not sure of the exact model and such, or what needs doing, but I'm excited, because its beautiful.

So what are your techniques for successfully cleaning grill cloth that is in good shape, but may need a little cleaning?

Not noticing the sticky about this, my wife painstakingly created the station tabs, after many trial and errors on the exact fit. The rounded corners are necessary, BTW. Mine just had the corners nipped off by me, rather than rounded. They appear to be held in by a subtle ridges in each opening; so the length of each tab is critical. Too long and the tension leaves them too pushed-out. Too short and they are just sitting there, unsupported. It's another labor of love Icon_thumbup . DENNIS

Ok you have seen this thread but looking for the value of the three caps on a late model 112 (47 output tubes). The three I'm looking for are the ones used in the tone control switch. Appreciate some help here. Not labeled on the schematic. Thanks for any help.
Jerry

Can anyone suggest a grill cloth that would be as close as possible to original for the above model? The one I just received has black! It looks old but doubt if it's right.
Thanks, Jerry

Can anyone tell me the value of caps in the three metal cans shown in the above? This is a later model 112 with the 47 output tubes. Awaiting better reading schematics from Chuck but hope to get a order in for caps.

Jerry

When I finally got around to building my first one. With a little help from Xray, she really works well. I'm really impressed with it's performance. I have to say it rivals my 160' long-wire on the BCB depending. Plus it really cuts the neighbor induced noise, which is an issue around me Icon_problem

Cost = $15. I'm counting the wire used along with other small odds and ends. I stripped the tuner from one of my junk AA5 sets. It measured about 10 - 467 pf on the tuner. So I used 15 winds for the main loop, and one wind for the sense loop. Connected the sense loop to A/G and the tuner to the main loop (for those that may not know already). I'm sure this is old hat for some of you, but new for me Icon_wink

I tweaked it some with a spacing of .100 between the 15 wind strands. I ended up bringing them together butt up against each other, but noticed no real difference except it now tunes below 500/kHz. I'll probably play around a little with the spacing to see what it does above and below. Anyhow it's no museum piece like some of them I've seen. But it tunes the whole band very well. I stuck it on a lazy-Susan so I can easily turn it for direction. Specs are;

One Philco 37-630 (Philco not required but preferred Icon_mrgreen )
18" x 18"
10-467/pf tuner
24 gauge magnetic wire
15 turns (spacing can vary)
1 turn sense loop spaced 1" below main loop.

Some of you guys should consider trying one, especially if you lack space for a long wire. Fun to build and the performance is really amazing. I'm planning on another I'll slap together this weekend. Working out the specs now. So do any of you fine gents have or have built loops? If so show us what you have. Tell me you most guarded secrets to a well built loop Icon_wink

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to post some pics of my just finished RCA 128. I wish I had some before shots to compare. I bought this set on Ebay last year and it was a case of something looking way better in pictures than when you get it. It took a lot of work, but I think it turned out well and it plays beautifully Icon_thumbup !
Happy Holidays to all!
Kevin
