Philco 53-706 restoration Chronicles - OldRestorer - 08-13-2014

I have finally had time to work on my Philco 53-706 lamp radio.

Here she is:

RE: Philco 53-706 restoration Chronicles - OldRestorer - 08-13-2014

I took apart the cabinet and began by stripping off the old Photo-finish

RE: Philco 53-706 restoration Chronicles - OldRestorer - 08-13-2014

I began reconstructing the finish by getting a full scan of some high detail veneer. Then I used Photoshop to add the gold lines. It took a lot of measuring but I finally got it right.

I took the new finish and glued it on with tacky glue, rolled out the bubbles and let it dry.

Tomorrow I will stain the new finish to match the back panel and add the top photo-finish.

Kirk, That is good. You can tone it a little red(er).

You should post the artwork for others that have similar radios. If you do, Post the DPI so that it can be sized properly without having to figure it out. I don't have one but I'm sure that someone does.

Really Steve? With the cabinets you are making.....

I got around to coloring the cabinet. Just have to add the gold paint and put her back together. Oh wait, I didn't clear the cabinet yet, Icon_crazy

I can send the files to anyone who needs them with all specs.

Took her outside in this gorgeous weather and gave her a bunch of coats of lacquer.

She's a good looking one!

(Don't get any ideas!)

Pretty impressive Kirk. Did you use an ink jet printer?

RE: Philco 53-706 restoration Chronicles - OldRestorer - 08-15-2014

Yes, I have a high quality Large scale Inkjet printer.

Kirk, very impressive. I love to see the creativity that so many people have. As a question, was it easier to go the route you did as opposed to veneer? At any rate terrific job.
Best, Jerry

I like to go original so Veneer was not really an option. Veneer may have been easier than creating a file and all that but this was more fun Icon_wink

Thanks,
I am happy with the outcome. All I need is the shade bracket and shade.
