37-665 vs 37-660 Why ? - mikethedruid - 06-07-2015

I recently saw an ad for a 37-665, and began to research the radio. In looking through the wonderful resources on this site I found it is an amazingly nice design. I also am left a bit puzzled. The 37-660 seems to have a better band coverage for general shortwave listening, being continuous coverage from 2.3 MC to 18.2 MC, while the 37-665 goes much higher, up to 42 MC, but leaves a gap from 22 to 25 MC. What was the purpose of the gap from 22 to to 25 MC ? Were both this and the one from 1720 KC to 2.3 MC removed because they were "police bands" ? Also, and perhaps more important, what was the purpose of going so high in frequency with a home receiver? If any of our Philco gurus know, please let me know. I find it interesting. I would like to know the market they were trying to cater to.
