Here is what was still in it.. Some type of droppings or nest from??

Quite a few wires missing insulation.

Mainly a wire ( Org) coming from the transformer? on left side of picture.. Not sure what it is.. Have to look at material I got from Chuck..

More to follow...

That looks like a mouse nest, there must be an entry point somewhere. In any event it looks like Jerry decided to chew on some capacitor shells and wires, rather then chewing up a coil like in Kirk's Silvertone, so it's easily repaired.

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-01-2016

Ok, I guess I will start going thru all coils and transformers to check resistance first.. Will make a chart of what it should be and compare to what I read..

Thats next..

Smart Jerry decided that a capacitor, as a storage device, might have something in it that the coil does not. Icon_lol
And wires are just nutritious, it's common knowledge.

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-01-2016

Could not find anyway anything could get in ..But something did .. How??? No clue...

or did they have this chassis sitting out.. then out it back in cabinet to get rid of??

Lucky I only paid 25.00 dollars for it.. I guess buyer beware..

Has anyone worked on this radio ?? How do you remove the separate deck ?? I do not want to remove the dial string as it seems complicated to redo...

I'd leave it in place. From what I can see the paper cap are excessable, for the wires I'd slip heat shrink tubing if their chewed up.

RE: Philco 46-1209 - Kenneth F. Besso Jr. - 11-02-2016

your be alright,,,I worked on 46-1226,,,similar ,,,,,you can get them caps out,,just take your time

RE: Philco 46-1209 - Paul Philco322 - 11-02-2016

Despite the mice it seems fairly well preserved. Good luck.

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-02-2016

Its not the Caps you can see. There is a cap at the bottom of the switch that you cannot see or get to that's the problem... So I will see how I can get sub chassis out without removing the Dial cord..

Be thankful there was no mouse pee to corrode the chassis.  It looks like the damage is easy to deal with.

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-03-2016

Ok, Thanks for the encouragement.. my next thing to do is check the transformers and coils to make sure they are OK..

Thanks

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-03-2016

Ok, Here we go... The Power Transformer..

[Image: http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm38/wb4yvo/46-1209-2%20036_zpsngyeo19x.jpg]

WHT-WHT 4.1 Ohms
YEL-YEL 177 Ohms
YEL-GRN 85 Ohms
YEL-GRN 92 Ohms

BLU-BLU .5 ohms
BLK-BLK .5 ohms
RED-RED .5 Ohms

I do not like the following readings The YEL-YEL schematic say 520 Ohms and between Yel-Grn 260 Ohms...

Blu say less than 10 ohms.. I certainly have less than 10 ???

These are all taken with a modern meter. And no tubes in place..

Any thoughts??

RE: Philco 46-1209 - vecher - 11-04-2016

Anyone have any clue if the resistance readings on the Power transformer are OK... They are reading about 3 times less than the schematic says..

Do not really want to do anymore work on this if Transformer is bad..

Do not want to power it up because the rest of radio is unknown..

Do you think these are in the ballpark or way off..

RE: Philco 46-1209 - Arran - 11-05-2016

Pull the rectifier tube and test AC voltages on the transformer at the rectifier tube socket.
