This might be fun!

You could use something like this to keep an eye on the generators frequency

This vis just one of many generators that are available. Have no idea what kind of electrical shape it's in. It is a little better than some entry level set as it does have adjustments to align it, some don't. Price is ok and it matches ur set.

Hmmm Ok I'll put a bid it. I'm thinking also though that maybe I should buy something new. I'd be worried that it doesn't work properly

Yes , if you buy a vintage signal generator there is the possibility that you will need to do some work on it unless you can be assured by the seller its really working.  They are not too complex but recap and recarb may be needed.  I had one where someone had tinkered with the circuit so I had to undo that.  If you want a new one you will pay quite a bit but antique electronic supply has one:  https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/generator-rf-signal

RE: 42-365 - Radioroslyn - 12-03-2016

Ok here is something a bit newer.

This the last generation of the Precision 200. Mid 70's vintage transistorize, calibrated output ect. Have seen them sell for $36-$100 or so. Lot of info on the net. Pretty equivalent to the AES unit.
I was looking into getting one till a friend offered me a military URM-25 (good Korean war vintage portable field unit).
If you are looking for something digital and modern expect to pay around $300+ for a good one. Or a rebuilt HP 80's vintage that weighs in at 75 pound or more. These are nice units that are used in labs. To work on these old set it's a bit overkill

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-03-2016

ok thank you very much. I'll write back when I have received one. I'm sure I'll need help using it.
Thanks again

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

I have a signal generator and I'm ready to try using it.

RE: 42-365 - Radioroslyn - 12-06-2016

Do you need some help with getting it set up?

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

Yes please. I have no idea what I'm doing. First I'm just trying to just test it out on the audio output stage. I have a B&K model 2005B

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

Oh BTW I put a bid on that old Philco signal generator. No one else bid on it, so I got it for $14.

RE: 42-365 - KCMike - 12-06-2016

I was watching that Philco sig. gen. but decided at last minute not to bid. Glad you got it.

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

I hear no audio output when I hook up this generator to pin 2 of tube 41

RE: 42-365 - Radioroslyn - 12-06-2016

Ok to get an audio signal from your sg connect a cable to the jacks that say  input/output. Use a series cap in the hot lead value doesn't matter much but should be 630v . Switch switch to int mod. Turn the attenuator up. This should give you a 400cy signal across your cable.
Try connecting to pin 4 of the 41.

And it does all the things the BK does, well all most.

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

So again I don't know what I'm doing here, but shouldn't I be hearing a tone on any speaker if I hook the clips from the generator to the speaker leads?

RE: 42-365 - ccbaker13 - 12-06-2016

Ok I didn't see your response before posting
