thinking of reproducing Philco repair shop sign - radiorich - 02-21-2009 08:32 PM Hello Everyone, Well I had a service manual kicking around that I got from Chuck it has a picture of a nice shop sign from the 1930 s that you could had ordered for your repairshop back then. Well in the add it shows what looks like and the size also it tells you the color sceme has anyone here had a sign reproduced far as this sign I'll either have it done on the plywood used for signes or there is a company that sells flat sheet metal with zinc and then it has BASF made paint baked on it has 50 year warrenty the company uses for roofing but I have used it in the past for signs to. I thought to past this idea by you guys also a find of mine is a professional sign maker he said for $65 I can have that sign made Sincerly Rich Re: thinking of reproducing Philco repair shop sign - Texasrocker - 02-22-2009 05:11 AM I love vintage signs! I have several vintage RCA, Zenith,GE Tubes/Signs Clocks ,etc. Depending on the size of repros, the bigger the better. I see some repros that are very small in comparison to the real vintage signs. If size is large on repros, say 2' x 3' as were the orig, I can see where they would be highly desirable. But then again, shipping chgs would be another matter. For wood signs used outdoors, marine-grade plywood would be needed. That is very expensive as compared to metal. My vintage radios customers love walking into my workshop. The vintage signs take them back in-time to better yrs memories indeed! I think you have a great idea indeed for reproducing vintage type signage! I also like the old outdoor metal thermometers of yesteryears. Seems those would be a good repro item also if re-produced again? Just my .02 Re: thinking of reproducing Philco repair shop sign - radiorich - 02-22-2009 07:23 AM Hello Texasrocker , Well I was going to reproduce this sign to use at my shop the radio and tv business I bought back in the 80s did indead have one of these same signs at the shop well before I ever owned it because I have a photo of the shop showing the sign in the back ground . most of the stuff that I have from the original shop are filing cabinets parts bins a adding machine a really nice old desk and a bunch of photos from the 50s oh ya test equipment and hand tools schematics and parts too.
