A friend of mine who resides in the UK sent me a CD of prewar ham magazines. I was surprised to read they were using inches,feet, and miles back then.

They were still using all of the Imperial system of measurement in Britain right into the 1970s, some of it is still used. With regard to American built cars it's usually an odd mix of SAE and Metric bolts and threads, some more mixed then others.
