Rons B&G ROCKS!! Question from olTxRockr,:, do you guys in the upper midwest States still have the "White Castles Hamburgers Joints" still in business??
(A.K.A.) " the aluminum room"?
As I understand?.. the very early American hamburger-stand-industry history?,( correct me here guys) the "WhiteCastle Square hamburger",.. was the "predecessors"??,.. to the USAs- McDonalds Restaurant Chain theory?,.. for making millions $$$$ before McDonalds ever existed??
I remember White Castles had the small,.. "square shaped" hamburgers many yrs ago, and offered a "to-go bag of 10 hamburgers"... for cheap prices to all us "working-class" type folks way back in the 60s era? You guys remember those days?
Also, is "Bob Evans" restaurants-chain still in operation these days as well? I can even remember the Stouffers chain before they started offering frozen TV dinners avail @ Krogers in the northern midwest states. I remember going to a Stouffers Rest in the Cinci,Oh area many yrs ago, and the fixins-offered were very good homemade-style. Im dating myself in age, but who cares!!
Heres another "blast from the past", ( Question from ol Tx)... even Texas had the orig " Burger Chef" drive in hamburgers stands! You guys remember those places also? If I remember correctly, the "A&W Rootbeer" Stands originally started in the upper midwest States also? We still have a few of those still around here locally. Great Root Beer in a frosty-glass-mug!???
Ahhhh.... the Great Memories of days past indeed!! ol Tx

I just returned from my White Castle breakfast - two sausage, egg, and cheese muffins (no Mc please) and coffee. The eggs and sausage are fresh off the grill and the muffins are much better than that other place. In the afternoons the jalepeno double cheeseburgers are just what the doctor didn't order. Heading down to Orlando tonight. Hope I can find a WC there.

Howdy Tex and EX, just got back from Fla - 75 when I left and 95 off the plane in Mpls! Huh? Looks like record rainfall for Orlando. Pretty wide storm maybe hitting you Bill as I write this. I'm not much of a sight-seer so the highlight for me was finding a bar with $2.50 tap Guiness and .75 brats and jawing with my pal of 50 years. When I retire, I plan on doing a leisurely Grand Tour around the country, but it won't be in my '68 Dodge pickup. With maybe 10 mpg and 500 mpb (miles per breakdown) I'd have to stop too often and seek a job to keep going - like Bronson. Remember that show starring the HD sporty? I'll probably buy a little more economical/dependable truck for the trip and sell it after returning. Something I can sack out in and shuttle large radios and Power Wagon parts for members I visit of both forums. But I am a terrible planner. If the inner voice starts chanting "Wuss, Wuss" I might just put the 4.10/granny 4spd in gear and pretend power steering and A/C are for girlie-men.
The peril and joy of being single is no wife to forecast disaster and pooh pooh adventure. And I am thankful for the hours I don't have to spend amongst the shoes and purses trying to
come up with an opinion.
Re: Order Up - exray - 05-20-2009 07:59 AM
Sorry you couldn't make it here, uff. No matter, it has been pretty rainy. Cooler than Mpls.
Speaking of travelling. Do you remember the guy on the radio forums a couple of years ago who hammered together a nice little trailer and was signing off for points unknown? Might have been the 807 Forum. Wonder how that has worked out? it would be great to hear from him again.
Re: Order Up - Uffda - 05-21-2009 12:18 AM
I can't recall the guy, but it sounds like fun. The old silver Airstreams with all the wood inside are tempting for long term. More than likely I
would stick with a one piece pickup/camper unit. Whatever happened to the women on ARF? There were at least three who posted regularly
but haven't heard a peep for the last couple of years. Don't think there are any on the other boards except the Yahoo T.O. group.
On an unrelated note, My wine fanatic friends in FL want me to make myself a wine rack from a '31 Apex Lowboy cabinet. I was thinking of just pulling
the tubes and offering the speaker/chassis parts for free. The wood needs more work than I am willing to put into it and nobody wants to travel
for these big dudes. Would anyone dare display such an abomination in the vicinity of their unmutilated keeper radios? Is cremation a more acceptable
solution? Maybe I'll put it on CL for $20 sans tubes just to salve my conscience. No takers? Out comes the saw.
