place to send speakers for reconing? - Guest - 04-18-2010

Hi All,
I have four speakers that I would like to have reconed, but I haven't been able to find anyone who will do them. Icon_sad The two largest guys that do vintage speakers in the States have told me that they don't want to bother to have to deal with customers from Canada. And I haven't been sucessful in finding some place up here that can recone them. Can anyone help?

Hank Brazeal is the go-to man for antique speakers in the States. I don't think he has any hang-ups about dealing with Canadians.

Great! How do I get a hold of him?

The last phone number I have for him is 205-403-6243 (in Alabama). I understand he has an email address but isn't much of an email guy. I think you'll find him a pleasure to talk with personally.

I don't want to attempt to quote costs or anything but shipping back and forth can get expensive. His work is reasonably priced.

What kind of speakers are you talking about? Any chance you can recone them yourself?

I have two 1950's 6x9 car radio speakers, and two 1940's 5 inch radio speakers. I could probably learn to do them myself, but by the time I source all the parts including cones, coils, mounting kits, etc, I might as well have it done by someone else. Plus, where would I fit in the time?! Icon_confused

Circuit Shop Loudspeakers in Caledonia Michigan reconed a 4" X 6" electrostatic speaker for me. It was from a 42-350. I was satisfied with their work, price, and turnaround. I don't know if they work with Canadian customers or not. http://www.circuitshop.com/

It's been a few years, but I have used Jackson Speaker Service in Michigan and was pleased with his work.

Ron McGee (owner) does not have a website, but does have an email listed: rmcgee08 AT comcast DOT net . He may also be reached via telephone: 517-789-6400.
