Refinishing Bezel - Pcorb - 09-13-2022

I am in the process of restoring the cabinet bezel for a Philco 46-1209. The original finish has all flaked off down to the bare wood.      . It’s basically a clean slate, but I’m unsure how to approach a new finish. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You might look into a self-adhesive vinyl with a wood grain on it.  I had bought some a few years ago from a company who markets it for putting wood grain on vehicle dashboards.  It can be worked around curves like those on your bezel.  I've used it on a couple radio projects.  One was to replace a photo finish burl walnut strip on an Airline cabinet and the other to cover the face plate on an Atwater Kent 480.

I believe I bought it from Metro Restyling:
