The tube socket for the 80 tube was bad on my Philco 18. So for curiosity sake, after I removed the socket I removed the rivets holding the 2 wafers together and inside between the 2 high voltage lugs was a nice pile of burnt residue. When I meter from one lug to the pile black stuff, I have continuity! Thus the short, as you warned me. Now, I removed a socket from a donor non-Philco chassis. It's the type that has "80" imprinted on the top, three wafers with a rivet in the center. Having never encountered this issue before, I'm inclined to use this socket. Comments?

Probably OK, but I'd rather get good quality new porcelain socket that would fit the existing cutout. Measure and post a WTB in classifieds. Someone may just contribute to you for postage only.

You're probably right, but I made the swap. Seems fine. Thanks.
