Looking for a grille cloth Philco 84 - CarlosRadio - 08-06-2013

Dear Friends,
I'm looking for a grille cloth for a Philco 84.
Where can I find a grille cloth like this? I put some pictures of the old grille of my radio.

I would look for upholstery that looks similar. Vintage grill cloth prices are ridiculous.

Radio Daze seems to be reproducing the Philco Model 70, 90 grill cloth which appears to be what you have. Here is a link:

That works out to $108/yard BTW.

I used this on my Model 90, not original but close, looks good, and decent price.

Here is what it looks like on the 90:

The stuff at Radio Daze is about the right color, but that is it. Too bad, that pattern was used an a lot of other radios as well.

And, like I said before, nice cat. Looks like our Wooly.

I'm sorry but that doesn't look right to me at all. In these days of 3D printing there has got to be a way to get these right. Most of the "vintage grill cloth" on eBay is nothing more than repurposed stock fabric. I had to buy a double order of this one, which really looks like it would be more at home on a chair than on the front of a radio: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130970742909 It was the only fabric I could find with a diamond pattern, but since it is called grille cloth, it goes for over $100 a running yard.

The guy selling that is a running joke around here anyhow. I nicknamed him "Foggy" because every make and model of radio he refinishes gets the same two tone treatment, like a cheap guitar from K-Mart, and crappy upholstery cloth in the speaker grilles. To make matters worse he then sets his team of shill bidders to work on anything he has for sale.
