1941 GE model LCD-609 - NostalgiaRadioTime - 02-02-2014

This is the other radio my generous friend gave me today. It needs work. Lots of work. The cabinet is a mess of peeling veneer. The paint on the dial glass is badly chipped. But, I'm going to give it the old college try and see what I can make of it. Does anyone have a good source for thin (this looks to be about 1/16" thick) sheets of veneer?

Rockler Woodworking may have it, Constantine's does have it, it's called French Walnut veneer, and they used a lot of it on radio cabinets during the 1930s and 40s. It's plain cut and not quarter cut by the way. Sometimes it turns up on fleabay as surplus which is where I got some, but there are a few sources of it online, sometimes you can also find a more local source if you live in a city.
