38-62 dial repair - Kirbyc - 07-05-2014

I'm working on my first Philco and need a little (for now) help. The dial has a crack that I would like to repair. A previous owner tried, but to no avail. I've attached a photo.
Also, is there a way to possibly lighten the dial up a little and flatten it out some?
