Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
Always wanted to get a 37-610, because they look so darn cool, have shortwave and because my mother and father were both born in 1937. This is a set that always intrigued me for a long time now, my first choice being a Climax Ruby! These however are few and far in between and also expensive. This manual appears to be an original, and I know I could have downloaded it for free somewhere, but I just figured I may as well take the first leap. What do you guys think for a starter restoration set? Should be a simple deal relatively, to find one and get it running!

Once I get the hang of basic restoration, I want a 39-116 with Mystery Control. Now that I've seen one in action on YouTube... I'm totally hooked.

Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
Well, cool, guys!
A 37-610 is a decent set. Not one of the great ones, for sure, but not too shabby either. And even through it has that infamous "Unit Construction" with the RF deck in the middle of the main chassis, the 37-610 is much easier to service than any of the larger 1937 Philcos. Now, a 39-116 will not be easy to service at all. In fact, it will be downright difficult. But it can be done with patience and a little luck. I've started working on a 40-201 console chassis for myself; I am hoping to have it done by Christmas. That will be this year's Christmas gift from myself to myself. -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand, IN |

Well, I hope you tease us with some photos of the end product Ron.

Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
Actually, I don't know what model set that is--it isn't a 39-116; as far as I can tell 39-116's don't have phograph players. I just love the electromechanical clicking noise.
I'd be perfectly happy with a 39-116, mind you. Someday. And I don't forsee getting rid of my 40-190, working or not... it's a beautiful piece of furniture. |

If it's the same video I'm thinking of, it's a 41-616. Very cool set.

Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
I was wondering if it wasn't a 41-xxx. Do they all use the same Mystery Control unit? I may obtain an MC box just to have should I ever encounter a remote-enabled radio... they're cool looking in any case.

Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
Basically, yes. I have a 1942 Philco wireless remote...the box is shaped differently from the 1939-41 remotes.
Still don't have the 40-201 finished, but I don't have much left to do to it until it is ready for testing and alignment. -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand, IN |

Re: Alright. Guess what my next radio is going to be?
I finished the 40-201 today. Sort of. It works great on AM, but is dead on the "police" band and SW. Oh well! I put it back into the cabinet anyway, caught a little AM 740 tonight as well as some of the music WABC plays on Saturday nights.

Slacker! I'd expect you would have had that done by Christmas! You gotta put some pictures up of what you been doing there. Always interested in what passes through your lab!
