Re: Idea for a new Phorum : DX Log
I recently received a QSL card from Radio Australia's Shepparton International Station. That was with my Hammarlund HQ-140-X connected to a 75' external longwire running North and South, about 10' above ground. I'm located in NE Penna. I also received QSL cards from Radio China International as well as Radio Moldova (Eastern Europe).

Re: Idea for a new Phorum : DX Log
Hello, Larry: I pulled RCI on 49M last night. I was actually looking for Radio Havana, but settled for RCI. I switched to Radio Albania vic 7.5MHz when the "I want to speak Chinese" program came on. FYI Radio Albania has some great music. Crazy lyrics, tho.....News program was amaturish .....

Bill: I'm no spring chicken, but I am facinated by the stories of radiomen, both past and present. Please do keep 'em coming.

Tonight Radio Romania on 31M band at 2015. A program about how much fun it is to make soap. I am not making this up....... This was on my RCA 128. For a 6 tube it really yanks in the stations.

Right now listening to RCI (Radio China International) also on 31M. Clear as a bell. Also on RCA 128.

Man, I hate to give in to RCI since those folks dominate us in so many ways but RCI often is worth listening to. They do have some good programming.

Sounds like I need to give this 60 foot longwire antenna, and one of my Philcos that covers the SW bands, some exercise...and see what I can pick up here.

Wow. You should be able to pull in some great stuff!

I agree about China, Bill. But I like to know the nature of my adversaries. Although the programming is not propaganda in it's obvious form, you do pick up on a lot of thought provoking news. After listening to an interview about China's supposed push for "green" energy sources, it made me wonder if this was somthing China was doing for appearances. Somthing to use against the west, to destabilize the west's industrial strength by pushing a green energy agenda versus conventional.
What the interview did not mention was that China is conducting a vigorous oil exploration and drilling program. Additionally, China mines and consumes a huge amount of coal.

Voice of Viet Nam tonight. 49M band, on an RCA 128 with a temporary antenna draped over my window sash. News, decent music, both local and otherwise. As I write this they just changed to a Spainish Language version of Voice of Viet Nam. Wow.

Re: Idea for a new Phorum : DX Log
Finally, I can contribute something to this thread...Icon_smile

While tuning the bands on my newly restored Philco 655B last night, I picked up Spanish National Radio (Radio Nacional de Espana) with an English language program at 8:30 pm EDT last night, 49 meter band. Their signal was fairly strong and clear, in spite of two signals just as strong if not stronger on either side of their frequency.

Edit: Looking at their website and running it through Google Translate, I see they broadcast an English language program daily between 8 and 9 pm EDT (0000 to 0100 GMT) at 6.055 MHz.

Re: Idea for a new Phorum : DX Log
The 655 is definitely on my short list of wanted sets. I envy your ability to restore chassis to like new condition!!!!

Tonight is Voice of Russia on 31M band on my AK 708. Lots of T'storms in the local area make for a fair amount of interference. Modern SW broadcast from Russia is so much better than the old Radio Moscow propaganda that was broadcast during the cold war.

I spent a few hours today working on my Philco 112, mainly re-stuffing the filter cap can. I have all the caps replaced and installed on the bottom lid where the electrical connectors are, but still have not gotten the original caps/gunk out of the can itself. I left it out in the sun for a better part of the afternoon, but most of the gunk still resides in the can. Tomorrow the can gets soaked in mineral sperits.

I would have my ex mother in law give the can her "evil eye" to melt the gunk out, but the last time I did that it backfired and the object I had her look at turned to stone.......

Again on my 655B, I am picking up Radio Australia with a weak signal in the 31 meter band, 7 am Eastern.

Re: Idea for a new Phorum : DX Log
Pretty good!! That's a tough one for me to pull in. If I do, it is usually late at night vic 9.5MHz (31M). I'm just listening to BC tonight.
