Admiral/Continental 960-8K
Just picked this up yesterday (I like the big dial sets) An Admiral/Continental by RPC. it's been recapped at some point and has some lifting veneer on the left side that I think I can get reglued. Plays well with a small amount of hum. The only cap that I can see that wasn't replaced is the one going to the antenna coils. This is the PITA cap a .1 400v.
How much will that cap affect the set ? I rearranged the dial lights to get a more even distribution of the lighting. This looks awesome in the dark! A nice sized set measuring 21" wide by 13" high by 10" deep with a 7 1/2" dial. Gene ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: Admiral/Continental 8KU
If it only has a few volts across it such as from the AVC circuit it won't hurt to leave it be. Hard to pin down without the actual cap identified.

A guy I know has a big Admiral console moldering away in his back room with that same type of dial. I have pondered rescuing it on several occasions, but his prices are always steep.
No matter where you go, there you are. |

Gene: I have a Belknap that bears a remarkable resemblance to your Admiral/Continental. Will send you some pics. What is the tube lineup of your set? Also, would you mind posting a pic of the chassis.
I attributed my chassis to Warwick..... |

Hi Gene,
I've got a RPC set myself. It's a bit of an oddball job. http://www.flickr.com/photos/53710524@N0...hotostream haven't been able to fine much about it. Was able to get it working ok, it's a TRF set from the early 1930's. Terry |

TAforbes, the tube lineup is as follows: 80,75,76,76,42,42, 6D6, 6A7.
Here are pics of the chassis with and without tubes. Richard, the pita cap that I have replaced tonight as well as two other plastic caps and got rid of the wire nuts on the replacement cord. Terry, that set is definately different! Looks like a giant tombstone! ![]() ![]() ![]() Gene |

Don't forget to check the body-end-dot code resistors as well, the ones that look like dog bones while you are in there. I would bet that at least half have drifted upward as much as 100% in value. RE: Admiral/Continental 960-8K
Very interesting! My set is a seven tube with a tuning eye. The tube shields, cans, and tuning cap are all the same variety. The brass teledial/ push button mechanicals are also the same. My bakelite caps on the buttons were unsalvageable. Knob arrangement is also similar.
