Hay, I know it is uncouth to post this here, but there are several polls on that other site - cabinet repair - to collect input on which grill cloth is most wanted. Fred said he would take the results to the vendors, because I am not going to. And why clutter up this site with 6 or 7 polls. There is one on just Philco patterns, even if you are not interested in the others. You have to reference the old GCHQ archived link to select the old pattern numbers unless you know them.
Maybe the vendors will listen, maybe not. Worth a try? Probably, if there are several hundred votes (IMHO).
P.S. vote for #24. I miss it the most - and it is Philco, kind of.

My thoughts on Philco cloth:
#24 was never an authentic Philco pattern. #1 was the proper pattern, and was used in many Philco sets between 1931-1934.
I noticed people at ARF seem to prefer #2 over #1. #2 (the copper version) was used in 19 and 89 cathedrals, possibly all 1933-34 cathedrals including 14B, 16B, 17B, 18B, 34B, 38B, 44B, 60B. I think some, if not all, 16B and 17B cathedrals used #1 instead.
#1 was definitely used in the 111 highboy, 21, 35, 46, 50, 51, 70 and 90 cathedrals; 52B, 52C, 71B, 80B, 80C, 81B, 91B; possibly some other 1931-33 consoles and table models.
#13 or #52 was a reasonable substitute for the cloth used in the 28C and 45C Butterfly sets.
At one time, I had toyed with the idea of putting together a page with the Radio Grillecloth Headquarters numbers and matching those patterns to the Philco models which used the respective patterns. But I've never been independently wealthy to the point that I could just spend 18 hours a day at a computer, so that certain thing called work kept getting in the way. Then John O. went out of business, so there was no longer any need for such a listing.

It's tough because you don't want to pick a pattern Kenny or RD is already making. I think Kenny's Whiskey Rayon adequately takes care of the bulk of the early cathedrals, there are already chevron patterns out there so for the Philco cloth I think I'll vote for #14 (ribbed) because I don't see anyone else making it and # 13 because it looks like a good generic for some early cathedrals.
I'll wait and see what others have to say before I cast my final vote.
I'll say one thing, while we're not back in the glory days of GCHQ, we're far better off than I thought we'd be and I'd like to thank Kenny for being the first to bring back some old patterns. I know it was expensive and frustrating dealing with various mills, test runs, etc. to get an acceptable product, but thanks to Kenny we at least have some decent patterns to choose from without cutting up cheap motel drapes.

Yeah, like I said on the other site #24 was similar to what was used in Crosleys, Zeniths and other brands, but not Philco. Which is why I put it with Zenith.

Im thinking out loud hear on this, I know it probably cost quite a bit to have a pattern made and produced, with that being said I wonder if we had enough people willing to buy a specific pattern that we could summit a check, say 25$ a piece to the vendor to put down to have it made. That way they don't have to use all there money to have it made and then we will get our piece of cloth . Just an idea, i,m sure something could be worked out between us all and Kenny or Radio daze. Its like an investment towards a new grill cloth supplier .. Ok all you business men out there , lets put our heads together here and help our vendors get the cloth we need for our radios.

Acked, but I was merely pointing out that #24 isn't - or I should say wasn't - authentic for Philco sets.

Well Fred, it has been nearly a week and there is very little input. In fact so little I would question the motivation of anyone wanting to make new patterns. Seems nobody wants to comment until they have a radio with a piece of curtain or stretchy under pants for grill cloth (spandex).

We tried, I guess where all going to have to sit tight until the other patterns which ever they be get into production. Im pretty sure that that radio daze or Kenny know which ones are needed most. It was at least worth trying, you never know until you try. It may be quite some time before we see a full line of grill cloth offered like it use to be. In one of my other post I mentioned, I don't know if you seen it but I said that if we had enough folks to put down some money like 25$ a piece towards a pattern, then when Kenny or Radio daze had enough money to get 1 pattern made then in return whoever sent in money would get a 18x25 piece or whatever. Just a thought.
