New Member Introduction
Hello, I recently joined the Philco Phorum, but have been reading the posts for a few months. I returned to "old-time" radio as a hobby about a year and a half ago... after a lapse of 45 years. In the early 1960's, as a young teenager, I assembled a couple of Allied Radio Knight Kits and "experimented" (read that as disassembled) on some older AA5's and similar sets.

Now, have had some success in restoring older sets, but still consider myself a novice. Have worked on only one Philco, a little 49-500I rescued from a junk shop; but I do use a Philco Model 9200 tube tester... hope that "counts"!

I may be able to contribute some, mostly historical information, on my website (website is totally free and has no advertisements). I look forward to reading and learning from your informative posts.

Hello Robert!

Welcome aboard! I've had the interest in the hobby since about 1968 at age 12 but not any real knowledge. I've just had my interest rekindled. I'm sure you're head and shoulders above me and I'd love to be enlightened with your experience and historical knowledge. I got back into this because I figured it'd be less trouble than hanging out in bars and chasing wimminfolk. I've had a recent bad ebay experience but I'm trying to cut my losses. Anyhow, glad you're here! You'll find the other guys here are truly 1st. rate and always glad to help. Thanks for stopping by. Don't be a stranger!

Mike

Welcome aboard! Philco's and the like are addictive. Wait until you delve into one of these 1934/35/36/37 sets. Then the bug will really bite. The golden age of hollow state technology in my book Icon_razz

Thank you for the welcome. I like the idea of "hollow state technology", very catchy.

Welcome Robert!! Hope that vintage tube radio restoration "bug" gets you going again! Anyone that has a old Philco tubetester, & built the old Knight-kits 60s vintage, will fit right in here amongst all us tube-techies indeed!!
The only prob I have found with this hobby, is that I cant do what I love 24/7, as the old "dayjob" gets in the way!! Icon_wink
