Scroll down to Bakelite Block #4989-H and you'll see which tabs on the bakelite block the twin .09's are connected to.
I remember this from my model 89, code 123 (pictured as my profile avatar).

Hi Greg..My block is printed with a 4989-AH has 3 lugs on it and had 3 wires coming up from it.......I guess my real question is, if there are two .09 caps in that block, the schematic shows #5 block with only one .09 with a 300 ohm cap in parallel...where is the other one?.....one wire goes to the antenna coil, and the other goes to a 1mg resistor...I'm confused, and am calling it a night...thanks, Buzz

Doing a little further investigation, block 4989-AH was later replaced with 4989-ODG, which had two .1 caps inside. That block is listed on the page I linked to above (scroll a bit further down the page). Basically, one end of each of the two caps go to the ground terminal, and the other ends go to terminal 2 and terminal 3 (making the three connections you see coming up). As to the why it only shows one cap on the schematic, possibly it was a revision they missed making in print? Who knows for sure what they were thinking 83 years ago.

Hello...this is for anybody to answer or anybody who can help.......On the Philco 89 radio with a 36 tube, with the police band.....what is your source for the numbering of the parts that's on the schematic?
I am talking about a part location diagram with the part number in a circle.......just curious, I was using a Model 19 and 89 source. Is there anything else newer than this one, besides the Philco 89 Code 123 schematic that uses the 77 oscillator tube???.....Buzz

The only parts lists ever published were in the original Bulletin 146 (models 89 and 19, code 121) and Bulletin 146-B (model 89, code 123, 77 tube). This is why I wrote the "Evolution" article which was formerly on my website and is now part of the Phorum - Philco changed the 89 so many times over the years, and usually only documented the changes by minor mentions in various "Changes in Models" bulletins issued sporadically. And to top it all off, not all changes were documented.
So...you have to do the best you can with the information available. The "Evolution" article is the most comprehensive information available on model 89.
And...if you're good at reading schematics and transposing what is on the schematic to what is under the radio's chassis, you don't need a parts list...

Ron.. I'm trying to figure out why my radio is wired different than the schematics you posted.. If you're using the model 19 and 89 parts replacement list, then for example, #5 cap block which your list as a dual .09's ..is located in the wrong place..the schematic has the .09's from the #7 five part condenser can mixed up with the twin 09's in block #5......according to my wiring ....did someone rewire my radio..I don't think so.......it works....Buzz

Yes, it is too bad that Philco did not document like RCA, even going to the lengths of putting together a comprehensive under-chassis wiring diagram which showed not only where parts were located, but how they were wired together. But Philco did not do this. RCA had plenty of money, so they could afford to pay someone to do that. Philco - in the 1930s at least - focused on going as far as they could at the lowest possible cost. One result was the poor documentation of their products.
Post a photo of the underside of your chassis, let us see what it looks like.

This is how my Model is wired. On the first picture you can see the arrow pointing to Bakelite block #5
and the other arrow pointing to #7 capacitor can.
The photo clearly shows block #5 (twin 09's) going to the antenna coil (#2 on parts layout)
and the other going to the junction of #41 and #42 (99,000K and 1 Mg resistors)
So, either the schematic is wrong or mis-numbered, or my radio was re-wired. Can anyone who has this model check theirs?
The 5 wires coming out of the can are marked by scotch tape,, The two .09's from the can show the wires going
to pins 3 and 4 of the RF Tube socket (bottom right)...also different from the schematic numbering.
Now, does this really matter?... probably not.... but if people are locating their parts off the parts layout sheet,
it can get confusing......Buzz

Interesting.
In your photos, I do not see a separate 300 ohm resistor between the 36 RF amp cathode and ground (looks like a short cloth-covered wire with tubular terminals and regular wires on each end).
Resistor (10) is hidden under the large 5,000 ohm resistor (20) which is under your (7E - .05) tape tag, so I cannot see if it is 15K or 10K.
Regardless...I'm seeing enough wiring oddities that I would need to compare yours to another 89 of the same vintage...and I do not own one. I have an 89-121, the early AM-only version as well as a late 1936 89-123 with 77 tube. Nothing in between. Someone else with an 89 like yours is going to have to jump in here.

The 300 0hm resistor is one of those flexible resistors that looks like cloth wire and it is going from pin 4 of the RF to ground. and is also covered with additional black cloth so you cant see it.
#10 has a 15K resistor installed
