Philco Tropic A-3601 Info
#1

Hey all,
I have a nice looking 1955 Philco Tropic A-3601 that's worth restoring. It was built in the UK, but the power supply is engineered for USA mains. It appears to be similar to an AA5 set, with the addition of a shortwave band. All the tubes are common types and UK made. I slowly powered it up and it worked fairly well, but all the tubes test weak and need to be replaced. I'd like to locate a schematic, or at least some alignment info, as I'm not sure what the IF frequency is. My usual sources came up dry.

The best I could find was this from another board

They seem to think it's similar to the A-3606 and there's a schematic available for that from here

Wait till Ron answers. He's pretty fond of Tropics so might possibly have something.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

The A3601 schematic isn't in my copy of the UK Vintage Radio Service Data DVD, which (unfortunately) is typical of UK-made Philco Tropic sets.

That DVD was sold by the same forum WallaceRoger Greg referenced above.

Thanks for looking Ron. I'll take Greg's advice and see if I can work with the A-3606.

If anyone's still following this thread, I recently got back to this radio, as I was waiting for a repro dial from Radio Daze. It looks great, so now I'm trying to finish up the calibration. However, the A-3606 data is not helpful. I really need the the A-3601 info or an equivalent US model. Any clues?
