38-116 Rectifier
#1

Hello Everyone,
I have a 38-116 I'm going to be tackling for the next few months and need some help with the chassis. It is supposed to have a 5X4G Rectifier tube on top of the transformer, but the base is for a 4 pin tube. Any thoughts? Did someone add a 4 pin base and try to use another rectifier easier to find? Maybe an 80? Any thoughts on how to tell and what to look for? Unfortunately that was the only tube missing when I got it. It looks like its had some people in it too. I'm not an expert at restoring these things yet, so please keep it simple for me Icon_smile

An 80 tube is too small, can't handle the current required by such a large set. 5Z3 is what your looking for.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

37-116 is powered with 5U4. If rewiring is ok, that could be used also.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Pstttttt a 5Z3 is a 4 pin 5U4. 5U4 is an octal tube which won't fit your now 4 pin socket.
