Kutztown This Weekend
Anybody going besides me? I'll be in my usual location on the fifty yard line. Be sure to bring along samples of the knobs you"re looking for.

Re: Kutztown This Weekend
I'd love to go to this meet one of these days...this weekend is out of the question for me, however.

Re: Kutztown This Weekend
Too bad, Ron. Kutztown (PA) is Philco country, and cat swinging isn't even necessary. Maybe you can make it out to the September meet instead.

Re: Kutztown This Weekend
Overall, attendance appeared to be down a bit, particularly on Saturday. We were blessed with glorious weather both days. More overnight campers than usual too. There was clearly something there for everybody. I set up Thursday evening and glad I did. Nothing more stressful than showing up Friday AM, only to be bombarded with buyers while trying to get set-up. Since I am a knob vendor exclusively, by 1:30 Friday afternoon, I'd already surpassed my greatest Kutztown weekend ever! Economy and eB** be damned. Este's Friday night auction had some interesting consignments, including a Sparton Bluebird ($2k) and a Fada Bullet that went for $900. As a Philco Phan, the buy of the night was a very clean and complete 37-650 console that sold for $65...quite the bargain. The flea market appeared to sport more "barn-fresh" items than usual and were attractively priced. John Hagman has posted an excellent photo album from the event on the AR Forum. A good time had by all.

Re: Kutztown This Weekend
Thanks for the report on the Kutztown meet Mike! Wish I lived closer indeed! Bet you guys had a blast! There are a few meets here in Tx as I understand, but I havent attended any as of yet. There is one Hamfest, in the Midland/Odessa area each yr, only 110 mi away from me, that I want to checkout sometime. I hear those ol-farts are lots of fun to visit at their meet/ swap/ tailgate hamfest party! They bring all kinds of vintage gear as Ive heard, from old tube transmitters/receivers, vintage tube radios, old test equip, boxes of parts, etc.
I hear the best-time of day to showup at the M/O hamfest, is after 4:00 pm, when its really hot outdoors, those guys will swap parts for ice-cold beer, even up!! One of my oldtimer tube radio-tech friends (79 yrs young now) attended last yr, and traded a cold 12-pk of Miller Lite, for a large box of good vintage tuning-condensers, before his drive back home. He even found a few vintage vernier-mechanical drives in the box also, and several good matching vintage knobs. He has invited me to go before, but I havent had the spare time yet. This IS a Great Hobby indeed!! Very glad you had a great time, & sales were good for you!! Thanks again for the report Mike!! Take care!! Sincerely, ol TxRockr. |
