Using the "Search" function within the Phorum
The "Search" function within the Phorum is flawed. (Not anymore! See the third post in this thread below.)
I've spent a bit of time this morning on the phpBB website looking into this problem, and it appears this is a known flaw in the software. Until it is corrected by the phpBB development team, I followed suggestions on their site to improve the Search function as much as possible. Now...do a search on "90" and you will get results, including "41-90," etc. Do a search on "116" and you will get results, including "37-116," "38-116," etc. But...do a search on "37-116" and it still does not return any results. Seems to me that the phpBB search does not like the hyphen in model numbers such as 37-116. Here is a workaround: Go to the "Site Search" page on my main website. http://www.philcoradio.com/search.htm This search will not only bring up results from the main Philcoradio.com website, but also from the Philco Phorum. And, this search (which is powered by Google, not phpBB software) works! I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the Phorum search not working correctly. But, until a good MOD is released or until the developers improve the Search function, it appears we are going to have to live with the limitations of phpBB Search. -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand, IN |

Re: Using the "Search" function within the Phorum
Ron Ramirez Wrote:But...do a search on "37-116" and it still does not return any results.. Tis goofy. The Alternative Radio Forum is the same way. If you use the Advanced Search and check Search for any terms you'll get ALL the posts that include 37 or 116. Happens to be way too many for usefulness. 900+ Doing +37 +116 works well even in the Basic Search. Gives the correct hits. 100+ Problem is that's non-intuitive given the way we've become accustomed to searching things on Google, ebay, etc. these days. |

RE: Using the "Search" function within the Phorum
Well...just for fun, I tried running a search on just "37-116" in our new MyBB-powered Phorum...and the search returned several hits!
Remember, previously, when the Phorum was run by phpBB, searching on just a model number returned...nothing. So it appears the Search feature works now! -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand, IN |
