Pioneer radio station KDKA AM 1020 will enter its 90th year in commercial broadcasting on November 2, 2010. Long considered the first commercially licensed broadcasting station in the world, KDKA has always been and is still the #1 station in the Pittsburgh radio market. With its powerful 50,000 watt non-directional clear-channel signal, at night it can received and heard in 34 states and half of Canada. Pittsburgh still has the unique distinction of having two of the three radio stations East of the Mississippi River that have continuously used, since the early 1920's, the K prefix in their call letters. KDKA-AM 1020 and KQV-AM 1410. KQV is a 5000 watt local station but has a great website where you can hear "Radio Spirits" old time radio shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
