Happy 4th of July!
Hope Everyone has a happy 4th of July weekend! Don't forget the Reason for it!!
I just finished up a full electronic restoration on a Philco model 41-608 (code 122) for a customer. The electronics under chassis had been previously hacked, and following my JF Riders schemat got it back to original. The cabinet is still in nice condition , but the old turntable is in bad shape. It doesn't have the BOL type tone arm but appears to be another type orig Philco tonearm. The turntable has the cutting arm ( with missing crystal cutting stylus) and the cutting head transformer is floating loose. This set has the orig Philco (added by dealer) type home recording unit to make disc recordings. The orig Philco input trans for the old style round chome Philco microphone is still in the cabinet also. Ron, do you think the folks over at West Tech Services could use these vintage Philco "home recording" parts? My customer wants to lighten the weight on the orig cabinet, have me remove the orig turntable and parts, and add a input for his CD and cassette player instead. I can do that into the extra input stage in this old chassis by simple mods. The orig turntable needs full restoration, but I think it could be saved. My customer only wants the radio to work again and add the input modification. Surely someone could appreciate having these orig Philco "home recording" accessories? I will keep them in my shop just in case. I also had to replace the orig 12" Philco Spkr that was bad with open field coil and bad voice coil also. I used a 2000 ohm 20 watt w.w. resistor in place of the orig defective 1100 spkr ohm f.c. , works great on modern day ac voltage for B+ and filament voltages, pulled them back into reality. Have a Great 4th of July PhilcoPhriends!! ol Tx |

Howdy, Tex, and Happy 4th to you also!
Absolutely - contact West-Tech, I am sure they could probably use what is left of the changer for parts. Tell them I sent you. -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand, IN |

Re: Happy 4th of July!
Thanks Ron!!, Will do. The customer also brought me the orig chrome round Philco microphone today that went with this old radio. He found it in a storage shed. The cord on it is in bad shape, I haven't checked the mics internals. Seems odd to me that the old orig brittle & crusty mic cable looks like lamp cord and is not a shielded type? The mic may still be good also after new cable attached. I will let the west tech folks know about all this if they can use it also.
