Was wondering Philco radio Ham Net?
If any of the hams here (which I'm one of, N3GTE) have any interest in starting an informal Philco net Where we could get together and shoot the breeze about Philco subjects. I was kinda thinking maybe in the fall when the static levels have dropped and E absorption is less. The real reason is my antennas are down so I need so motivation to get them back up again. When I operate I mostly operate AM which may be a plus for those who want the listen in with there non communications receiver. Who knows it maybe able to make some new hams from the group.
What do yous guys think? (philly lingo)

I'm not a ham, never have been, but it seems like a good idea. Especially the part about operating in AM mode, so the rest of us who do not have "boatanchors" with SSB capability can listen in.

There's still hope for yous guys. Years back the FCC did drop the code requirement way down in speed to 5 words per minute. The theory you could probably pass with what you know about electronics.

There is no longer any code requirement.

Something about the Boy Scouts and Morse code. Probably a merit badge. Didn't finish. Can't read music either.

Re: Was wondering Philco radio Ham Net?
In my former life in the USMC CW (morse) was often the only way we could transmit long range traffic with the military 20 watt "shortwave" radios we carried. Max amplitude of the CW signal resulted in max power out.

Late in my career we had new devices that would encrypt a message and send it as a burst transmission. This also maxed out our transmission power.

During the first Gulf War, we were in the A.O. a couple of weeks after the invasion of Kuwait. Our "base camp" had available a HUMVEE mounted 138 shortwave radio, which had up to 400 watts output. You had to be very careful around it when traffic was being transmitted. We erected a large (nearly 100 yards) dipole using camo net poles and were able to recieve several BBC stations and on some days we could raise the MARS station in England.
