RE: Philco Sign in Maxatawny, PA
I believe that $4300 is way off the beam for one of these as an unrestored sign exposed to the elements for decades, if it were new in the original crate it may be in line but even then it's debatable. It may not be as old as some think, signs of that style were very common right into the 1950s. Much as we are all radio nuts and Philco Phans something like this just does not have the same market as a Coca Cola or even an old gas station sign, and even with those $4300 is pretty close to top dollar. I would be taking a guess that maybe $500-1000 might be in line, you can see some rust stains dripping down on the outside so it definitely needs more work then you would think.

Arran

The sign is still there, still on the pole:

So...I guess no one wanted to pay $4300 for it? Icon_eh

Saw that sign on my way to Kutztown from the airport! Proof positive that I was going in the right direction!! $4300.00 is absurd for that sign. Another example of people thinking it has to be worth a fortune because it is old. Classic...yes, but maybe worth less than a quarter of what is being asked. And that is if it still works!
