Old Radio Shows on vic 1700 KHz
Has anyone else been recieving the old radio shows on vic 1700 KHz? I say vic 1700KHz because there is no station ID or advertisements unless they are vintage. Many are cigarette ads, long time since them......

Right now it's Radio Mystery Theater episodes. In the past they have had Lone Ranger, Dragnet, and others.

There have been a couple of station IDs for CKWW/Windsor ON, but after researching it on the web I discovered that they broadcast on 580KHz.

Re: Old Radio Shows on vic 1700 KHz
Out of curiosity after reading your post, I powered up the old late version 116B tonight and tuned it to 1700 kc. This was around 7:15 pm EST. I heard some 1970s popular music, that soon faded out and gave way to...another station playing 1970s popular music.

No old-time radio programming.

Could be a local, but it comes on daily, often 24 hours a day. It is not great quality, and sometimes it is off the air, but not for very long. A mystery.....

Ya could be, but pretty neat. After my RCI listening I will switch over to it. Or, hmmmmm, maybe just fire up my own broadcaster and listen to the sweet sounds of circa 1940 Louis Armstrong over one of my sets.

Radio Albania had the "Joys of soapmaking" program on again a couple of nights ago. Big hit over there, evidently......

Not sure on your locale TA, I did a google search and found a guy named Gerald Gaule in Albany OR who apparently runs an FCC part 15 station that plays old stuff. Depending on your 20 maybe you are getting him? I am sure you can google him up. Icon_confused

TA, I'm about 50-60 miles from Windsor so I just fired up my (sorry Ron) Alinco DX-R8 to 1700khz. No dice, but 580 comes in clear with '70's stuff. Joe

Re: Old Radio Shows on vic 1700 KHz
Hello Paul/Joe: I'm in NC, not far from Raleigh. I just fired up my RCA 263 and a Radio Mystery Theater adventure is coming in "lima-charlie" on 1700 KHz (dial). Since there is never any announcer or station ID, I am stumped as far as what the origin is. The antenna is a 5 foot per side "loop" that is oriented roughly north-south.

I did hear "CKWW" a couple of times, but now I believe that it was part of the retro advertising that infrequently comes on.

Either way, it's a refreshing addition to my reception.

Re: Old Radio Shows on vic 1700 KHz
I know 1680 - 1700/Kc is very popular with the part fifteeners as well as the pirate radio crowd. I know stations pop-up fairly often on the DX clusters listings and sometimes the pirate radio forums. So, sounds like that is what you're receiving. Funny they use CKWW which is in my neck of the woods. There was a popular pirate out of NY city that used 1700 and was often logged on the DX cluster several states over. I've actually heard them in MI several times, quite often during the winter months. They played a Jewish prayer format, so no classic rock. I've also logged several pirates during winter nights on 1660 1670 and even 1710 during my BCB DX hunts in the last 5 years. A good amateur receiver with a proper long wire makes it easy Icon_wink
