Congrats Ron!!

As with most projects, it always involves more work and time than we expect...many thanks for your effort.

RE: ...And we're back, redux.
Thanks, Kico Icon_smile

Now, a bit of explanation about why the Phorum had to come down for a while, and why it's running on MyBB instead of phpBB now.

Once I moved my site, Philcoradio.com (which includes the Philco Phorum) to a new web host, all seemed well in the beginning. An old "Contact Us" script on my site broke, and once I discovered that, I replaced it with a new script that not only allows people to send me messages, but also to submit photos if they need to. But I digress; that's another story.

The Phorum seemed to be working OK, except for three problems:
    1. New members could no longer join - they received the dreaded "General Error" message instead.
    2. Members' avatars mysteriously disappeared.
    3. Attached images which members had included in their posts mysteriously disappeared.

Attempts to fix these issues failed.

Long story short: My new web host offers several different types of bulletin board software, not just phpBB. I decided to try MyBB after discovering how easy it is to use, configure, customize, etc. Plus - it allowed me to import the old phpBB Phorum database into MyBB.

New users are able to join once again. I tested this before I made the new Phorum "live."

It has not been an easy battle. As an example, just importing the smilies from the old Phorum took a couple of hours.

Everyone should be able to log in as before - as far as I know, no user passwords were lost in the shuffle.

I uploaded a few avatars which remained in the old phpBB database, along with a few avatars for Phorum members who are also members over at that other forum.

Now, you can help me get everything straightened out again by doing the following:

If your message has strange code where your images used to be, links to images that are not there, or if your attached images are missing altogether, please re-upload your attached images. These were lost, and are not recoverable.
If your avatar has disappeared or if I uploaded the wrong one, please go to your User Control Panel and upload one to your liking. Again, most of the avatars were lost when the old phpBB Phorum became corrupted.
If your message included a link to another website and it now looks like strange code, please feel free to edit your message to straighten it out. I am afraid that I do not have time to edit every single message.

Thanks for your help, and for bearing with me through all of this.

Well, one user lost his password Icon_smile but the lost password function worked fine so all is well.

Don't forget to redo the link on the philcoradio.com main page. and the photo gallery too... I think you'll be fixing links for awhile Icon_sad

So what killed it, was it a bad loctal socket, green coil disease, or a leaking paper cap? Icon_smile

LASJayhawk, sorry to hear that your password was lost in the shuffle, but I am very glad to know that you were able to change it with no problem. Icon_thumbup

All links to the Phorum on the main philcoradio.com site have been changed. I am extremely fortunate in this case...Dreamweaver can make global changes to every page in a site without my having to change every page manually. Icon_crazy Icon_e_surprised In addition, I placed a page where the home page of the old Phorum used to be, with a link pointing to the new Phorum.

Great to be back. Very soothing color combo. I too had my password nixed. Took all of five minutes to get a new one, sign in, and change back to my old one.

Question: What is the difference between the reply tab in the frame of a post and "new reply" beneath the heavy blue bottom border?

Edit -- Okay I see that my question ought to be what is the difference in how to use the within post reply tab and the "+" tab to the right of it? Both involve
quotes but I am to thick to see how they are used differently. Is the "+" tab for quoting somewhere other than in the same thread?

RE: ...And we're back, redux.
Thanks Ron. Icon_thumbup

I almost fell off my chair when I logged in, every message I received over the past year was resurrected from the dead. My eyes popped when it said there were 14 messages. Turns out none were new and all of which had been deleted previously. Not a problem, just a surprise. Icon_biggrin

EDIT: I just noticed one thing, the clock has been reset to GMT and shows as 2:33pm, should be 8:33pm, some folks might not notice it's off so I thought I'd mention it.

OK, now I'm starting to see some problems. I seem to have lost all previous thread subscriptions except ones I initiated myself recently.

Ron, where's the thread with the pics of your Magnavox Regency?

Looks good Ron, thanks for all your hard work!

I took a little time and added my avatar and corrected/added (as needed) links and pictures in my old posts.

Hmmm, added my location to my signature since it doesn't seem to show in the header. Maybe there's a profile setting that I'm overlooking.

Phil (Uffda)

The reply tab quotes the message you click this tab in, and opens your reply as a full edit.

The + tab quotes the message you click this tab in, and opens your reply in the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the thread.

Hopefully that makes sense...

RE: ...And we're back, redux.
Well....thanks for giving it a shot Ron. I now see there are four ways to reply!!! This is in Quick Reply; just above is New Reply, and within your post are the two reply with quote tabs. It took me years to figure out copy and paste so I know the problem is on my end. I'll just stick to hitting tabs as the spirit moves me and possibly repetition will clear the fog.

RE: ...And we're back, redux.
Sorry, Phil Icon_sad

Ja, there are differences between the new Phorum and the old Phorum, especially since we're running different software now (MyBB vs. phpBB). I guess we will all have to get used to the differences. I hope all will agree that having some things different is better than having no Phorum, though.
