On the CFL's I have seen a few scorched bases from heat but no fires. I did notice that the ones that have covers over them to look like "regular" bulbs in open fixtures seem to go out more often and sizzle a bit when the do. On the LED's don't they also have drive power supplies in them too? That is what usually burns out in CFL's so sounds like trading one burned electrolytic/transformer for another.
