Your first look: MSARC Lexington, KY Swap, 04-21-2012
Wow! Rainy weather did not dissuade anyone from attending the MSARC Spring Swap this morning in Lexington, KY.

This morning's event was probably the best attended meet the club has had recently. Lots of items changed hands - Debbie and I both took some sets from our collections, and none of those sets returned home with us. Icon_biggrin Icon_thumbup

Yes, my Zenith 10-S-153 found a new owner, right away. In fact, several people inquired about it later, and were disappointed to find that it had already been claimed.

John (Eliot)'s Philco cathedral cabinet also found a new home. Icon_clap

Here are a few quick pictures:

This table had restored radios belonging to Joe Vittitow, and some unrestored sets belonging to another collector.

This photo shows part of the crowd packed into the back of Collectors Gallery during the meet.

Here's our own John (Eliot) at left, with Allen Ferris at right.

And finally, the busiest man at the meet - Terry Layman (back to camera, blue shirt), answering questions, helping people out, and selling radios.

We really enjoyed ourselves, and it was great to be able to hang out with all of our friends and fellow collectors.

Great to see Joe (w4rtc) and GlennPR at the meet, along with John (Eliot) and everyone else!

Oh, in case you are wondering...yes, I did bring a couple items home. One was a Philco 40-95, which I bought to complement the original (but empty) Philco 40-95 shipping carton I have had for a little while now. The other item was a Philco 490 console.

Oh, I forgot to mention that: Terry Layman is now the proud owner of the Zenith. Icon_clap Icon_thumbup

Well...! The FREE Zenith blows my Zenith Prices = $/0 equation out of the water. If you add the free Zenith to the prices of all Zenith sets, it brings the average cost of a Zenith set down to a very affordable $789.30!!!

Mike: TAG, your it!

Looks like it was a fun show.

RE: Your first look: MSARC Lexington, KY Swap, 04-21-2012
Hi TA. How much would more free Zeniths affect the overall market, I'm wondering.

How do export models figure in? Maybe someone will discover a cache of buried export models, packed in cosmoline, in Burma or someplace. Probably wouldn't be a very large stash, so maybe the market price wouldn't undergo too drastic a change.

It sure does look as though the Lexington show was well worth attending. And I sure wouldn't let a little thing like rain deter my attendance. I've driven before in wintery almost white-out, conditions for far less fun. And I think going to see, possibly buy, sell, trade at these shows is only half the fun. For me an equal impetus would be meeting and talking with other collectors.

Ron, glad you find some items worth taking back home, and if you were selling I hope you made a tidy profit.

Can't wait for July and the M.A.R.C. Extravaganza, that's only about 70 miles from me so there's no excuse not to attend.

Hope everyone is having a safe, enjoyable weekend.

Mike

Thanks for the report Ron. Yes, despite the cold and rainy weather we had a very nice turnout. I found new homes for 4 of the 5 main items I brought:

A Jesse French Cathedral

A nice Jackson Capacitor Tester

An empty Philco 89 cathedral cabinet (with good grille cloth) was given away.

And finally, I sold one of my N.I.B. Crosley radios. This one was an F-25 clock radio that was never plugged in and a beautiful blue color. I was pleased to see it return to the Cincinnati area with a very appreciative collector.

I had a great time wandering around meeting and talking with other collectors. Thanks to all who braved the weather to make this a great meet!

Thanks for the shout out Ron! It was good to catch up with you and Debbie. It was a good show with a lot of different models available. The most interesting part of the morning was a trip to Terry's shop Icon_eek.

Is it time for a vacation yet??
