Time to buy a lottery ticket?
Or to dig for a treasure in the backyard?

Bob has had the 15DX for four years I guess so that wasn't recent, but he did find a Philco 41-316 and a Philco Predicta "Tandem" model TV. I find a 118 Cathedral and a 39-116 and the guy is a goofball who wants to play tag rather then sell his sets.

RE: Putting it in Perspective.
I was trying to put my luck in it's proper perspective. Other guys find top of the line sets, and ol Tom finds a.....tube.....

I shouldnt complain, as in the last couple of months I have found some good sets.

RE: Putting it in Perspective.
Only 2 things I've found lately:

53-1750 for $50 turned out it was missing 4 tubes.
39-45 for $100 had the electrolytics replaced in the 60's or so and needs a recap but the dang thing plays great.

best thing about the 53-1750 is it has a .04uF micamold for the line filter, and they built the rest of the set on top of it! Icon_twisted

RE: Putting it in Perspective.
My neighbor knows I service old radios. He has been calling on me to take a look at his latest "stash" find he purchased for real "cheap"all in a lot several months ago. I looked at his purchase the other day, all were Philco's---(5) 37-6XX wood case tabletops sets stacked up, with fairly nice wood cabinets and all tubes & hardware still present. I haven't asertained the exact models of each set, but at fast observation, these are all the "rf deck" mid chassis sets in different style deco cabinets, with crusty wiring indeed. There is also a old Silvertone wood tabletop in the mix. I may have some good vintage Philco sets here once I make a deal with him. He is waiting on me to make offer. Like I need any more radios. Lordy Mercy, I will save em' somehow.... I also thanked him for remembering me, I never get that lucky finding old radios these days!! ol Tex

Tex: Let me know what your neighbor has, I might be interested in taking one or two of them off your hands.

You may be lucky. They often want them fixed - cheap.

I used to do that too, back in the old country, but they did that out of necessity - people were poor and in mid-80-s they would own an old 40-s-50-s-60-s radio/TV set.

Here it's a different matter. An old radio is not a necessity, it is a conversation piece or an antique item, that, if it works, gains in value and becomes even more of a conversation piece.

You would be surprized, I've know people that bought and sold cars with a case of beer. There are also a lot of old radios in the North Eastern states, and the economy really isn't doing that well, so the "toys" are usually the first things to go, boats, sports cars, motorcycles, old radios (especially if they don't work which is true 75% of the time)

TA, there might be a story, but at the moment, I like the leaky 0.04uF micimold cap across the power line!

Where would I look for those "case'o'beer" radios? Flea markets?
