How Tall Is Your Radio Project Stack?
As I sit here on break from the 40-180/190 project that I've been gathering the knowledge and courage to attack for years, I had a humorous thought...
...I haven't paid for any of my six radios, at least not directly. In my project stack, in order of preference*: 1) Philco 40-190 (that's getting a 40-180 chassis until I have time to do a full-banana rebuild of the 40-190 chassis; it's a rusty basket case) 2) RCA WR50-B RF sig generator** 3) Silvertone 6024*** 4) Silvertone 115*** 5) Zenith 4G903Y portable that the father-in-law couldn't resist plugging in 6) Motorola 65X11A 7) the unidentified radio, believed to be something along the lines of a General 591 *Subject to change pending availability of documentation. **Which I bought on eBay before I realized the seller's listing said it didn't power up. A pair of pliers and some elbow on the semi-rusted on/off switch took care of that. ***Both of which need a general cleaning and bringing in from the garage before Damp Season sets in, but I'm not doing it until I get the 40-180/190 to at least light up and whisper. So how deep are your project piles, folks? I seem to be steadily losing ground over here in the Pacific NW... |

RE: How Tall Is Your Radio Project Stack?
How tall is my project stack? All I can give is a rough number. I would say at least 40 sets that need to be either finished or started, just on the electrical side. I don't even bother working on them in any sort of order, just on whatever appeals to me at the time. I'm wrapping up a Canadian Westinghouse Columnaire 8 chassis (Basically an 801 with a few things switched around) for someone else. Next will be a 6 tube 1940 RCA console (an A-30 I think) because I need to get rid of it. I also want to finish my Medco radio and get back to my Philco 708 (Canadian version of a 46-1201) which has a dial tracking issue. I would like to finish the rebuild of my 1948-50 C.G.E COT4 television set, I ran out of parts and reassembled it for the time being. Then I need to make some parts orders to get started on some of my other sets.

RE: How Tall Is Your Radio Project Stack?
Just added a Crosley D-25 GN, to the heap. Looks nice and the radio works, with very little hum! The clock is not working, though.
I'll get around to it! -Greg |

RE: How Tall Is Your Radio Project Stack?
Oh Boy... The stack is too big, but good deals keep finding me.
Just finished a Zenith 7k731 with a 7M07 chassis with a severe case of SMD, This was for my Grandson on the way (10/31). Next is a Zenith 8H034 I like the dual FM band. I've had it for awhile but as too intimidated to give it a try. Then: 37-116x 39-55 w/Mystery control RCA 811k Zenith 9S54 Emud T-7 Blaupunkt Flornenz (has been my daily player, now buzzing out of the Electrostatics, both so suspecting a bad cap) Crosley "Tenstrike" Philco 40-150 Philco 53-960 and about 10 more tabletops... Oh man it gives me a headache, Glenn Is it time for a vacation yet?? |

RE: How Tall Is Your Radio Project Stack?
I have four radios, all working.
But now that I am about to acquire a tube tester, I will retest and realign all four. And this will probably trigger four or five tubes replacement across the board. Plus, I do not at this point mess with cabinetry, only electronics. Next goal is Zenith Bomber 7G605. |
