New arrival

I was over chatting with a ham buddy of mine and he mention that he had just gotten a Heathkit DX-100 in an estate deal that he didn't need and was I interested. Well normally I wouldn't but this one was really clean as most have all manner of modification done to them with lots of holes, switches,& meters. This one was used my someone who used it for CW only, the modulator and speech amp tube were out. Some guys will do that to lessen the load on the power supply. The DX-100 was the first ham transmitter I had gotten back in the late '80s and used it on phone when I got my general ticket in 1993. Somewhere along the way I sold it so it fun to have another one! Terry N3GTE ps Larry if you would like I'll keep my hear out for one for you if you like? Planing on an upgrade??? It would be great fun to chat on 75 or 40mtrs!! |

RE: New arrival
The DX-100 is a pair of 6146's modulated with a pair of 1625's. The nice thing about it is it's very ruggedly built and all the parts a supper sized. I think they copied the Johnson Viking II but used much better parts. Easily do 120wts on phone and 140 on cw plus it has a good built in vfo. Hopefully I'll be able to get her on the air this fall/winter.
DX-100 affectation known as The Benton Harbor Kilowatt! Terry |

RE: New arrival
Come on Tom jump in!!! No more code exam (like I had to take). It's a lot of fun building transmitters and receivers and using them on the air to see how well they preform. And you learn a lot. I like designing and building then trying other configuration to get the most from a design. Then there is restoring old gear like this DX-100... It takes a strong back!!!
