Radio Attic Forum, RIP
I was really surprised when I visited the Radio Attic Forum for the first time in awhile recently.

In case you were unaware, it has ceased to exist. (The Radio Attic has not gone anywhere, though; it continues to serve the antique radio community offering an alternative to eBay to sell your vintage radios.)

I can certainly sympathize with what Steve was going through - the same schmucks, the same putzes, are constantly bombarding yours truly's e-mailbox with similar bogus requests to join the Phorum at about the same daily frequency (between one and two dozen per day).

As you know, this activity has forced me to research, and ultimately add, a MOD to the PHP software which forces new Phorum users to take an extra step in signing up. This MOD has cut way down on bogus requests to join the Phorum, although a few spammers still manage to get through (and are immediately deleted).

Hmmmm...goes to show what I know. I was never aware the Radio Attic had a forum! Icon_confused

Nonetheless, that's too bad. Steve has a great website - it's always nice to have a central place to find a picture of a radio to match to a model number, regardless of brand. That part of it is the truly valuable thing, and I hope that doesn't go away. That would be a major dissapointment if it did.

Of course, this is the place for all things Philco! Icon_cool

Yes. It was shut down due to spam overload a few months ago.

Ya know, ... I never noticed Radio Attic ever had a forum either! Guess I wasnt checking in there often enough? You bet, Steve has a awesome database of photos to identify vintage Radios!! That would be a major loss also if the site goes dark!!! What these spammers are doing is losing all-us vintage radio restorers much valuable info that we share & need to save ALL these old sets!! The Atwater Kent website also went down last month because of the same "spam" probs!!!!, that also had GREAT - tube- Techs & info for repairing all those early sets!! One of them even helped supply me vintage tubes at a low price to complete a restoration on a AK model 42. He also supplied free-of-charge hard to find factory-service-info "copies" to help me!! Ray even worked on the NASA Gemini & Apollo Spacecraft projects and "knew" his stuff on all-things tubegear!! Lets hope "spammers" do not ruin all the vintage Radio websites we need to find out all we need to know while repairing all these old vintage pieces of radio-americana!! Here is a special "toast" to ALL at Old Rons Bar & Grill!! Hoping Philco Radio.com is always here on the www. , and that ALL us old tube techs have a place to meet in the future!!! I hope these "spammers" that ruin vintage radio websites get a dose of "high voltage"someday!! Sincerely, Randal
