Greetings from the Great North Woods!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to say hi and that I'm new to this forum. I've been a Philco lover for years, but at the tender age of 54 am only now beginning to get my "feet wet" with repair work. My pride and joy is my Philco23X R/P, and I have owned many fine Philco's over the years. Not sure why, but they are most definitely my favorite make.

I look forward to participating in this forum and to sharing (with my limited knowledge) in any way I can.

Best,
Charlie in New Hampshuh

Welcome aboard Signaltracer!! I have been servicing old vintage tube-gear (all kinds) for many yrs. I got into vintage radios (seriously) about 15 yrs ago. I am also 54 yrs old so dont let age scare you!! We all "learn & share" info here and this forum will provide you very valuable info from the BEST Philco techs around!! Ron & Chuck are "Superb Philco Techs!!", and have knowledge of Philco sets that will never be equalled in our lifetimes!! I have learned that visiting this forum may take-awhile to get your answers ( techs have personal lives also), but if you are patient in awaiting your answers, you get the best from the Best right here!! Enjoy your vintage Radio hobby, and if I can help in anyway, I will be more than happy to assist! Do you have your necessary bench-test equip yet for servicing old radios? There are a few "required-items" to be successful in this hobby!! Randal

Signaltracer - welcome! Welcome also to all who have joined the Phorum recently. I am proud to say that we may not be the biggest forum around, but ours is probably the most stable. With a server hosted by http://www.westhost.com/, we almost never have any downtime. Icon_biggrin And, besides, where else can you chat about "all Philco, all of the time?" Icon_lol

Hi Randal, and thanks for the warm welcome. No, all I have is a multimeter (which I haven't learned to use) and, aside from ears, eyes, and a nose, that's about it. I've done some recapping and have enjoyed taking that slowly and learning the fine art of soldering. I have no tube checker, signal generator, etc. I was fortunate to have a very good friend (passed away last year) who was an old-time radio serviceman who gave me tips and pointers along the way here and there, but I've never had any instruction other than what I've been able to teach myself. I have a very basic understanding of it all, but when I read what some of these guys say when discussing all the "farads," numbers, stages, and testing, I can get easily lost. But, I'll persevere!
