Philco in Canada
Philco established a Canadian subsidiary, Philco Products, Ltd., in late 1930, building a factory in Toronto, Ontario to serve the Canadian market. For several years, most of Philco Products Ltd.'s radio were identical to their USA counterparts, carrying similar model numbers with a "3" prefix to denote Canadian manufacture.
By June 1938, the radios produced in Canada began to look very different from USA Philcos. The company also adopted its own model numbering scheme, which results in confusion today among radio collectors, since many later Canadian Philcos used the same model numbers as older USA Philco sets.
A Set Index for Canadian Philcos
I have prepared an index of all Philco models sold in Canada between 1928 and 1947. This index is similar to that found in the Philco book, but has been revised to include many more known equivalents to 1939, 1940, and 1941 USA models as well as including 1946 and 1947 Canadian models for the first time.
