They aimed to \"make a splash\" by offer\u00ading a num\u00adber of table mod\u00adel sets in dif\u00adfer\u00adent col\u00adors, as well as a few con\u00adsole models.<\/p>\n<p>Col\u00adlec\u00adtive\u00adly, this ear\u00adly line of Philco mod\u00adels are known as the \"511 series\" since all of the sets below used the same 7-tube <span class=\"caps\">TRF<\/span> chas\u00adsis, which per\u00adformed quite well. All were designed to oper\u00adate on 105-115 volt, 60 cycle <span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span>: ver\u00adsions made to run on 25 cycle <span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span> were also avail\u00adable. All had pow\u00ader sup\u00adplies built as part of the main chas\u00adsis, unlike most of their com\u00adpeti\u00adtors which were still using large, sep\u00ada\u00adrate pow\u00ader supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, these sets received only the <span class=\"caps\">AM<\/span> band, and not the entire <span class=\"caps\">AM<\/span> band as we know it today. These Philcos were designed to receive between 550 and 1500 kc, which was the entire <span class=\"caps\">AM<\/span> (stan\u00addard broad\u00adcast) band as it exist\u00aded&nbsp;then.<\/p>\n<p>The weak points of these new Philcos were the high-imped\u00adance mag\u00adnet\u00adic speak\u00aders used, which by 1928 were already becom\u00ading obsolete.<\/p>\n<p>The orig\u00adi\u00adnal sell\u00ading prices of the radio below did not include tubes, or (in the case of the met\u00adal table mod\u00adels) speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Philco would fin\u00adish the year in 26th place in the radio indus\u00adtry, not bad con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00ading their radios had only been on the mar\u00adket dur\u00ading the lat\u00adter half of&nbsp;1928.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Model_Index\"><\/span>Model Index<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em>Click on a thumb\u00adnail to see infor\u00adma\u00adtion and pho\u00adtos for each&nbsp;model:<\/em><\/p>\n<table class=\"model-index-table\" style=\"border: none; The match\u00ading Mod\u00adel 211 speak\u00ader (sold sep\u00ada\u00adrate\u00adly) was paint\u00aded to match the&nbsp;radio.<\/p>\n<p>The cab\u00adi\u00adnets of all of the table mod\u00adels, and the speak\u00ader hous\u00adings, were made of stamped metal.<\/p>\n<p>A ver\u00adsion of Mod\u00adel 511 made to oper\u00adate on 25 to 40 cycle <span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span> cur\u00adrent was Mod\u00adel 521.
