Philco for 1929 (introduced June 1929)<\/h2>\n

<\/span>Overview<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Philco line\u00adup now had a com\u00adplete\u00adly new mod\u00adel and a revi\u00adsion of an old one. The new set was the six-tube Mod\u00adel 65 \"Screen Grid\" receiv\u00ader, Philco's first to use the new screen grid (Type 224) tubes. The revi\u00adsion was the new eight-tube Mod\u00adel 87 \"Neu\u00adtro\u00addyne-Plus,\" a refine\u00adment of the pre\u00advi\u00adous Mod\u00adel 86. The main change to Mod\u00adel 87 was the use of Type 245 push-pull out\u00adput tubes in place of the Type 171A<\/span> tubes used in Mod\u00adel 86. This gave both new Philcos more audio out\u00adput power.<\/p>\n

Both mod\u00adels shared cab\u00adi\u00adnetry except for the Table Mod\u00adel, which was only avail\u00adable as a Mod\u00adel 65. The cab\u00adi\u00adnets were all new except, again, for the Table Mod\u00adel (although it used a new speaker).<\/p>\n

A mod\u00adi\u00adfied Span\u00adish Brown table mod\u00adel was now avail\u00adable - the six-tube Mod\u00adel 65. The knobs were clos\u00ader togeth\u00ader, and a rotary off-on switch was added in place of the tog\u00adgle switch used on the 511 Series models.<\/p>\n

The sep\u00ada\u00adrate speak\u00ader was now a Mod\u00adel F-10 elec\u00adtro-dynam\u00adic unit.<\/p>\n

The new Philco Low\u00adboy was very pop\u00adu\u00adlar in its time; exam\u00adples are eas\u00adi\u00adly found today. All of the ear\u00adly low\u00adboy mod\u00adels such as the one shown have a wood grille insert with intri\u00adcate cutouts; sets made after approx. Jan\u00adu\u00adary 1930 do not have the intri\u00adcate cutouts.<\/p>\n
