As new tubes were intro\u00adduced, new cir\u00adcuits were being devel\u00adoped to take advan\u00adtage of the new tubes. Only a few months after the intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of their 1929-30 radio line, Philco intro\u00adduced an impor\u00adtant new&nbsp;model.<\/p>\n<p>Mod\u00adel 95 was the company's best offer\u00ading up to that time, and would remain so (with minor changes) until Jan\u00adu\u00adary 1931. Mod\u00adel 95 or Screen Grid Plus used 9 tubes and fea\u00adtured Auto\u00admat\u00adic Vol\u00adume Con\u00adtrol, a method of con\u00adtrol\u00adling the ampli\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion of the <span class=\"caps\">RF<\/span> stages. This kept the vol\u00adume at a fair\u00adly con\u00adstant lev\u00adel, pre\u00advent\u00ading loud \"blast\u00ading\" while tun\u00ading across the band. The 95 came out on or around Octo\u00adber&nbsp;1929.<\/p>\n<p>The new year of 1930 brought along two more new Philco sets. Mod\u00adel 40 was Philco's first set designed to oper\u00adate on <span class=\"caps\">DC<\/span> cur\u00adrent only, which was being used in some parts of the coun\u00adtry although 60 cycle <span class=\"caps\">AC<\/span> was well on its way to becom\u00ading the stan\u00addard for most of the <span class=\"caps\">USA<\/span>.
