Philco for 1930 (introduced June 1930)<\/h2>\n

<\/span>Overview<\/span><\/h3>\n

Take a Mod\u00adel 76 and a Mod\u00adel 95, remove the local-dis\u00adtance switch from each, put the vol\u00adume con\u00adtrol where the local-dis\u00adtance switch was, add a four-point tone con\u00adtrol switch where the vol\u00adume con\u00adtrol was, and voila - you have the 1930 Mod\u00adels 77 and 96!<\/p>\n

These were the only changes made to the chas\u00adsis. How\u00adev\u00ader, they received new cab\u00adi\u00adnets for 1930; the excep\u00adtion being the table mod\u00adels and the console.<\/p>\n

Mod\u00adel 40 also became a Mod\u00adel 41 with the addi\u00adtion of a tone con\u00adtrol instead of a local-dis\u00adtance switch.<\/p>\n

Philco had been a bat\u00adtery man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ader for many years before they began to make radios. How\u00adev\u00ader, up to this point they had not built a radio that oper\u00adat\u00aded on bat\u00adter\u00adies. That now changed with Mod\u00adel 30, a set designed for use where no elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty was avail\u00adable. It was essen\u00adtial\u00adly a bat\u00adtery-oper\u00adat\u00aded ver\u00adsion of Mod\u00adel 96, as it also fea\u00adtured Auto\u00admat\u00adic Vol\u00adume Con\u00adtrol (AVC<\/span>).<\/p>\n

Philco put a radio-phono\u00adgraph mod\u00adel into pro\u00adduc\u00adtion for the first time. Mod\u00adel 296 had a sin\u00adgle play 78 rpm phono\u00adgraph cou\u00adpled with a Screen Grid Plus 96 chassis.<\/p>\n

All of the new mod\u00adels now used translu\u00adcent, back\u00adlit dials. Ear\u00adly ver\u00adsions had point\u00aders on either side of the dial; these soon gave way to a \"glow\u00ading point\u00ader\" mount\u00aded behind the dial.<\/p>\n
