Philco for 1932 (introduced June 1932)<\/h2>\n

<\/span>Overview<\/span><\/h3>\n

Philco began the new 1932 sea\u00adson with their largest line\u00adup of new mod\u00adels to date. There were now 32 all-new Philco radios to choose from, along with the Mod\u00adel 4 short\u00adwave con\u00advert\u00ader left over from Jan\u00adu\u00adary 1932.<\/p>\n

Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, this was the wrong time for Philco to be so ambi\u00adtious. 1932 was the worst year of the Depres\u00adsion, so many sets in the new Philco line sold poorly.<\/p>\n

Most of the new Philco line used 6.3 volt fil\u00ada\u00adment tubes, the same tubes that had been devel\u00adoped for auto radios. The rest of the radio indus\u00adtry would even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly adopt the 6.3 volt standard.<\/p>\n

Philco's 1932 flag\u00adship mod\u00adel used 11 tubes and fea\u00adtured a light\u00aded grille area when the set was on. This was the last set to use the large, heavy chas\u00adsis pan that had been devel\u00adoped in 1928 for the 511 Series line. It used two speak\u00aders and cov\u00adered the AM<\/span> band only.<\/p>\n
