Philco for 1932 (introduced Fall 1932)<\/h2>\n

Two Philco mod\u00adels were replaced with new ver\u00adsions, while ten more mod\u00adels were added to the Philco line\u00adup in the Fall of 1932. One became a run\u00adaway best sell\u00ader because of its low price - Mod\u00adel 80B<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Mod\u00adel 48, a 110 volt DC<\/span> ver\u00adsion of Mod\u00adel 52, made its debut in the Fall of 1932. It was avail\u00adable as a Baby Grand, a com\u00adpact table mod\u00adel, or as a low\u00adboy (see below).<\/p>\n

A new \"price leader\" set, this lit\u00adtle four-tube regen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive super\u00adhetero\u00addyne does not work as well as its larg\u00ader cousins.<\/p>\n

This radio was intend\u00aded to get peo\u00adple into the show\u00adrooms, where it was the job of the sales\u00admen to sell a cus\u00adtomer \"up\" to a high\u00ader-priced mod\u00adel. As 1932 was the worst year of the depres\u00adsion, how\u00adev\u00ader, the strat\u00ade\u00adgy back\u00adfired on Philco - and Mod\u00adel 80B<\/span> became a run\u00adaway success.<\/p>\n

Philco's first portable radio fea\u00adtured black leatherette cov\u00ader\u00ading and a car\u00adry\u00ading han\u00addle. How\u00adev\u00ader, like all oth\u00ader ver\u00adsions of Mod\u00adel 80, it required 110 volts, 60 cycle AC<\/span> to operate.<\/p>\n
