Many new Philco mod\u00adels made exten\u00adsive use of \"photofin\u00adish\" (decal-based) fin\u00adish\u00ades on their front pan\u00adels; which means if you strip the fin\u00adish off many of these 1937 mod\u00adels, you strip away its entire look; reveal\u00ading very plain white wood underneath.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the 1937 Philco line used a new devel\u00adop\u00adment called Unit Con\u00adstruc\u00adtion. Devel\u00adoped by Philco chief engi\u00adneer David Grimes (whose claim to fame pri\u00ador to Philco was his \"Inverse Duplex\" radio receivers of the 1920s), the new chas\u00adsis con\u00adstruc\u00adtion mount\u00aded the set's entire front end (tun\u00ading con\u00addenser, coils, band switch and asso\u00adci\u00adat\u00aded tubes) on its own chas\u00adsis which was mount\u00aded in the cen\u00adter of the main chas\u00adsis and sup\u00adport\u00aded by rub\u00adber grom\u00admets. These mod\u00adels are very dif\u00adfi\u00adcult to ser\u00advice. For\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, Philco only used Unit Con\u00adstruc\u00adtion dur\u00ading the 1937 and 1938 mod\u00adel years, aban\u00addon\u00ading the idea afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Some\u00adthing else made its debut in 1937 Philcos: octal-based tubes. These, how\u00adev\u00ader, were not the met\u00adal shell octals that had been devel\u00adoped by <span class=\"caps\">GE<\/span> and pushed hard by <span class=\"caps\">RCA<\/span> since 1935; 1937 Philco mod\u00adels used glass octal tubes with <span class=\"caps\">ST<\/span> (taper-top) envelopes.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Model_Index\"><\/span>Model Index<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>All 1936 Philco mod\u00adels were discontinued.<\/p>\n<p><em>Click on a thumb\u00adnail to see infor\u00adma\u00adtion and pho\u00adtos for each&nbsp;model:<\/em><\/p>\n<table class=\"model-index-table\" style=\"border: none;
