A while back I started on a 39-25 and posted some in the electronics section but got sidetracked into working on the cabinet.  I wasn't sure if this one was going to clean up.  Here is the as received photo:

Grungy dial cover:

Chassis and dial cover removed:

The corner got banged up with a loss of glue block and veneer:

The cabinet actually cleaned up pretty well with some Citristrip:

The dial cover also cleaned up with some scrubbing but that takes it down to the brass instead of the original gold/brass paint.  Thanks to Bob Andersen's youtube video I knew what to do:

This was my second attempt at veneer repair and it seemed to come out reasonably well.  The glue block fix was pretty straight forward:

There was a black water stain on the top of the cabinet...probably somebody's plant stand in the past Icon_sad  but it cleared up with an oxalic acid treatment:

After toner and the first coat of clear its beginning to look much better:

I'll post a final photo when the chassis is finished and the final lacquer rub out is done.
Looking good... Icon_thumbup

Thanks guys.
I have one of those waiting in the wings and am glad to see yours. It shows me how good it will look when it is restored.

Super nice. Reminds me of an old Coronado set I couldn't ressurect.
Here's the final result with the chassis installed and playing Phillies baseball on WSAN 1470.

Excellent job Icon_thumbup I'm glad you were able to benefit from my experience restoring a very similar 39-30.
Wow nice! Bob!  That water stain did come out nice!  The whole project did really.  Beautiful restoration!
