I have a nice Philco 60 that I spent a lot of time fixing from the ground up, including the case. I noticed that it wasn't as sensitive as a few of my other sets, so I changed the tubes to stronger ones and couldn't remember whether I aligned the set or not. So, using the alignment instructions from the schematic, I began to adjust, with good results. Then, pow, I lost all sensitivity and couldn't bring in any stations. There are a few instructions where you remove the grid cap from the 6A7 and listen for the signal generator signal. That went well. Then I attached the signal generator to the aerial and adjusted the wave trap which is another padder. Then I adjusted the two screws on the variable capacitor. Then I adjusted the L.F. Oscillator underneath. Somewhere in there something happened. I spent the next hour just readjusting padders. Now I will be asked this: Yes, the set growls and shows signs of a station when I touch 6A7, and when I touch the 78 tube, I do get one station in that is not linked to the variable capacitor. Now, if I turn the set all the way up and turn the var. capacitor, I can faintly hear a few strong stations. The last thing I did was realign it with the signal generator. It picks up that signal normally, telling me that it's alligned well. Seems like a weak aerial problem but I'm no expert. I'm just spinning my wheels. Any help would be appreciated.
