The Detrola 140 is DONE!
The hack job with the ballast tube has been undone and thanks to someone, It is fully restored electronically now!
It plays real well and I even got China on the Foreign band... Or at least they were talking in Chinese,
Cabinet will be a project and will have to wait till spring...
Nice set!!!!
Like the dial and cabinet design.
Are you too scared to show us how the underchassis looks?
Haha,
I only have one before putting in the diode and resistor....
Not too bad.
Oh, I see your electrocution counter has been incremented
careful there!
I jumped into that Zenith 5G500 that was supposedly dead. within 20 seconds I found the problem. The butthead who tried putting the new line cord on, soldered the 2 wires so poorly that they didn't stick to the terminals. They much have touched because it blew out the 117Z6. I recapped it but there was a lot of rubber wiring so I did that too.
She is playing real nice now... I just need the handle to arrive from oldtymeradio.com...
Continuing on from the above post...
I had extra energy this morning and pulled out my Tiffany-Tone mantle set.
IT was a pretty easy recap but speaker removal and putting it back in was a true PITB!
She will be displayed on the main floor...
looking good kirk
but why the extra cap in the tiffany ?
Oh, Thats the other Electrolytic.
The Ecap box was 8 and 8. I just moved them to tighter locations since I did not re-stuff the box.
Gee at this rate I'll have to start sending you chassis to fix!!!!!!! HaHaHa
Not a chance Terry... Not a single one.... Unless you like to gamble on plugging it in
Well, I'm late to this party. Kirk, you are the most energized "Old"restorer I know. Where do you get the energy and time??? This is a great collection of radios; my virtual hat off to you! Joe
Hahaha,
I work from home so I have many hours. Plus I really dont sleep much so I am in my shop a lot...
I get spurts of energy and then burn out a few days later. If a few days I get the urge again
