Question How do you remove the Tuning Capacitor?

Looks like you have to take off the dial.. But have no clue how to do that..

Ok thought I had a Bad Power Transformer.. However I was measuring the wrong pins on the Rectifier tube.. So all is good so far..

But Need a better copy of the schematic and parts layout underneath chassis.. My copy stinks..

Ps the Tuning capacitor came out with a little trouble But figured it out..

You can make a great oil for unsticking stuff by mixing one part ATF and one part Kero. As a sub for the kero you can use minerial spirits, charcoal lighter is minerial spirits. I perfer to use the kero but I know most folks are not into kero lamps and lanterns.
Careful use of a pair of small strap wrenches (example below just for reference):

After you try a better penetrating oil.  Similar to what Dave mentioned is a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone:

If you decide to buy a local product rather than mixing your own the above test shows that Liquid Wrench works almost as well as Kroil but costs a lot less.
Also, with thin parts like this, gripping them to unscrew can cause enough flex that they bind more. I have seen this make thinks seem stuck that are not.

Try gripping at each end away from the threads - it might help.
Ok Question about the Mershon Caps.. Were they Electrolytic or Non Polarized?

This radio uses two 10 UF at ????Volts..

The Mershon caps are wet electrolytics, in fact some of the earliest electrolytic filter caps available on the market, therefore they are polarized, they were 450 VDC ones most likely. However they are large enough that you could  restuff them by installing non polarized poly film caps inside the cans. I think that the tops have removable caps, so this makes it easier to hide your work, the anode and rod will have to be removed from the inside of course, then you just replace them with a brass bolt or threaded rod.

Ok thanks.. I guess I will use a 10UF at 450Volt electrolytic in each can..Or should I go higher in value?

Want to save the Non polarized ones for Philcos..

Thanks

I put 10uf 630V NP Solen caps in those. They will last a lot longer.
Ok Last Problem I hope... The rubber bushing that's on the tuning..

The AK55 that I did had a similar arrangement. I believe I used a piece of rubber fuel line and glued it onto the shaft.  it works great.  See if you can find a size that works.
